Fringe Club

Oh yeah, I rocked a fringe and bob.
Recently I've noticed that a few bloggers have decided to go for the chop and get a fringe, even a friend of mine confessed that she tried to get one but due to her uncertainty the hairdresser ended up with a very cute Bardot-esque one instead of the blunt fringe she wanted..

This made me realise that getting a fringe is actually kind of a big deal.

Like many kids I've been working that haircut with a fringe from a very young age and pretty much kept growing my hair not really knowing what to do with it. But when I reached 16 I decided I wanted a change; so I cut my hair to a shoulder length, and cut in a side parting which later became the genesis of my emo fringe... let's not talk about that.

I didn't change my hairstyle again until the 2nd year of University in Glasgow where I decided to get my fringe back. I remember back then I barely spent that much thought on it, maybe it was my inner self wanting to be young again.. I got a blunt fringe and I've kept it until this very day.

So when my friend asked me all these questions about getting her first fringe I was a bit taken aback by how little thought I put into it, and that it really is a commitment. Eventually I managed to talk to her about how hair types can influence how a fringe would appear and how much maintenance it needs (my fringe needs a trim like every 3-4 weeks!).

Are you guys thinking about getting a fringe? If so what style are you thinking?

What are friends for?

Creepers gonna creep.

So, excuse the blurry photos. These pictures were taken from various cameras so the sizes and quality of the photos will be different. Rather than editing through them all I figured it'd be nicer to leave them as they are just to emphasise the randomness that are my friends and I.

I know it's been a while. Fortunately I don't exactly have many (if any!) readers so no one complained.

Last year I started this blog as form of a creative outlet for myself and had a fair idea in what kind of blog I wanted to be. However a combination of anxiety and lack of inspiration set me back a lot, until eventually life problems just got in the way and the blog ended up taking a back seat.

Three days ago four of my very best friends from Glasgow came to Edinburgh to visit me. It's been hard trying to stay in touch what with everyone working or studying, also it isn't exactly cheap to travel to Glasgow on a student budget! I know many friendships would dwindle to more time you spend apart from each other; they make new friends and you end up missing the odd life events and then suddenly it's like you hardly know them anymore.

Luckily with these girls the moment we see each other it's all hugs and giggles; it's like I never left Glasgow. We quickly caught up with the biggest and latest gossip (surprise engagement!) and I've never been happier.

When we were walking, I noticed that my friend Iona was taking pictures of me. She said it's because she finds me really stylish and thinks that I should start a fashion blog. Obviously it struck a bit of a chord with me, well because, I kind of have one. I just never had the confidence to take it anywhere.

So this is why I'm here again. With my friends behind me believing in me, what other reason do I need to give this another go? What are friends for?

Wish me luck!

Life Recently

Right now is one of those rare moments in my life where I feel okay about things. Living with anxiety all my life hasn't made me the most optimistic of people, but having my family and friends there for me during the big moments of my life this year has really made me feel lucky. I hope that things can keep going on this way.

Of course as you may know we have been busy moving! We've been here in our new flat for 20 days now and things are coming together slowly but surely! There are still a million boxes of books to unpack but it's finally starting to feel like home.

Excuse the Instagram pictures, its the only way I've been documenting my days at the moment..

I can't get over this window in my study, can't wait to get the room sorted and have days of sitting at that window with cups of tea!

Also during the time we've been here, it was also around the same time as my birthday. However since we've been so busy we haven't really had time to plan anything, I even forgot it was my birthday until a few days before!!

So I woke up to this pretty sight on the morning of my birthday.. David had to go to work that morning so we couldn't spend the day together, but I was so happy with my presents and was enjoying my quiet day in. I was so surprised at the Chanel perfume, I had jokingly previously said I would like it. I didn't think he'd remember!

In the evening we went to a local sushi restaurant called Kanpai, I've been there before and really liked it. The food is so fresh and delicious, and I had a lovely time. It's times like this I wish I was more of a food Instagrammer so I could show them to you...

We Are Moving!!

Life has been somewhat hectic recently, the boy and I found out about our new flat and my new job at Forbidden Planet on the same day! The past few months have mostly been spent on IKEA dream furniture shopping and trying to be the best comic book nerd I can be!

I'm really going to miss our current living room view..

Too Shy To Blog.

"Hate You 2" Jersey Dress: UNIF
Tights: Topshop

One of the things I promised myself this year was to start a blog. I knew it was going to be difficult, but even if it doesn't work out at least I tried.

The first obstacle I hit was the outfit post; the post that I was looking forward to and dreading the most.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to say that they have body issues, normally I hide at the sight of a camera that's not my own and I can't smile normally without looking like I'm in pain. But one of the main reasons that I wanted to start blogging was to help overcome my issues and hopefully learn to like myself a little bit more..

This is an outfit from this week; if I continue to post enough one will notice that I wear a copious amount of black. I've also yet to find a decent background for photos...

I've always been a big fan of UNIF, but found their range somewhat dear since they're an American brand. I love their edgey style and in your face designs that I can't quite find here.
When I found out that Urban Outfitters stocked them online last year I may have squealed. A lot. I took no time in purchasing this jersey dress with a message that's perfect for those I-Don't-Give-A-F**k days.

Do you have a go-to outfit for those days?

Terracotta Army Invades Edinburgh

This is a very belated Chinese New Year post, but I really wanted to share photos of the exhibition before it was March..

[Warning : very picture heavy post!]

In celebration of Chinese New Year the University of Edinburgh brings a great swathe of China to the Old College Quadrangle where the famous art installation of larger-than-life lantern warriors has just marched into. They were designed by Chinese artist Xia Nan for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, inspired by the army of ancient Chinese terracotta warriors which was created to defend the inner soul of the 3rd century BC First Chinese Emperor Qui Shi Huang. The artist uses traditional Chinese lantern designs to re-imagine this impressive archaeological discovery. There will be as many as 90 brightly coloured figures which are lit from within and stand at around 2.5m tall. They include men with horses as well as women and children.

The boy and I waited until dark to fully appreciate the multi-coloured spectacle; the area was so busy with visitors that various security staff can be seen dotted around to prevent any damage that may happen to them. Though we were glad to see them all in one piece after the terrible weather that has been occurring!

Hope everyone had fun celebrating CNY in their own way!

This Week

This is my first post from my new camera so I apologise if it doesn't turn out very well! When most people would have been relaxing this week I've mainly been busy with my Eco House project! Here's a sneak peek of my drawings..

I really love technical drawing so I had a lot of fun putting my design together, hopefully I'll get it done before Christmas!

Hope everyone is having a better week than me!

New Camera!

Yes! Christmas has come early for me! My dad knew I wanted this camera and he said he'll get it for me, I didn't plan on him turning up at my flat with it!

My decision to seriously start blogging was the reason I wanted a camera, I wanted to be able to take semi-decent photos rather than just using my phone and inflict my face on you all! *evil laugh*

I'm still going to be pretty busy from now until Christmas with exams and coursework, but I plan on giving this a real shot when the holidays start! Wish me luck!

What camera do you use for your blog photos? All hints and tips welcome!

One Sketch A Day

I feel like I've been stuck in a creative rut recently, all the studying and coursework has really taken its toll on me and my brain just seems to not want to do anything else.

So I purchased this visual journal One Sketch A Day from Chronicle Books in attempt to keep my brain engaged, even if it's a pointless doodle.

You ever felt like you were in a creative rut? What have you done to snap out of it?

Merry Christmas from Oxfam!

So I'm unofficially the "window person" at my local Oxfam bookshop which I volunteer in. This year I was asked to do the Christmas window and I already knew in my head what I wanted. A Christmas tree made of books! I've seen many pictures online and Waterstones bookshop even had a cut-out version last year, but I thought I'd do one better and build it myself.

I previously asked the manager to keep aside as many pretty books as he could for me, and he did a good job! I can't say it was an easy task... with having to work with a certain number of book and customers picking up my books! I also had a few people watching me from outside the window..

After a while I was pretty happy with the end product. It got a lot of compliments and my manager was happy.

What have you been doing to spread the Christmas love?

First Time For Everything

Hello there, this is my first post at my attempt of making my own fashion/lifestyle blog.

I'm not quite sure how it's going to turn out or whether anyone would even read it, but we've all got to start somewhere right?

So if you've come this far then thanks for taking time to read this and leave a comment to say hi! I'd love to get to know you.
